Long established Stromness company James Wilson (Orkney) Ltd, the food and drink wholesaler, has had to suspend its supply of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Managing Director Keith Leonard explained:
“Suspending any area of operations is a significant business decision, and not one I have taken lightly.
“I have elected to suspend supply of fruit and veg to enable us to continue meeting demand in all other areas of our usual service, including supply to NHS (Orkney) and OIC.
“Our customers have been universally supportive of this decision, with many sending best wishes for the recovery of our absent staff.
“Even so, I fully understand the impact and inconvenience caused to our customers by this decision and will therefore endeavour to keep them updated and informed.
“I am engaged with several options to enable demand across all areas of our service to be met and hope to restore supply of fruit and veg soon.
“Updates were sent to over 500 registered customer email addresses, and printed copies are also being despatched with delivery documentation.
“As per our most recent update, I encourage any customer with immediate concerns to contact office staff through the usual means.”
The company have put in measures to address the situation:
Supporting current staff throughout absence to recovery
Active recruitment of additional staff
Reviewing operations to identify and exploit opportunities for efficiency
Keeping customers informed
