Artist/Builder Becky Little and Architect Tom Morton will give an online talk about their Earthbound Orkney Project on Wed 30th October, the final event in this year’s programme.
In the latest part of the ongoing research into traditional Scottish earth materials, Becky and Tom have been studying the beautiful earths of Orkney for the last 2 years, working with the local heritage and arts community to understand and celebrate how earth has been used in buildings for 5,000 years, and how it offers a gateway to our future.
This talk will present the project exhibition, seen by 10,000 people this summer in Orkney, part of which will be in the Fragile Correspondence exhibition at the V&A Dundee for 6 months from Nov. 21. They will also talk about the geology, cultural heritage and artistic practice described in their video and book.
Becky and Tom are grateful for the support of Historic Environment Scotland, National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and University of Highlands & Islands.
The talk will last about an hour, followed by a Q&A discussion.
