Scottish Water would like to thank customers in Orkney for their continued support while they face some demand issues in the Islands.
While there is no customer impact at this time, the publicly owned utility continues to take measures to ensure this doesn’t change.
Alan Taylor is the Operations Team Leader for Scottish Water in Orkney, he said:
“We currently have around 10 tankers in the islands to help maintain our supply to customers. Whilst this isn’t routine, there is no cause for concern.
“We are coping with a larger than normal demand at this time of year and tankers will remain in the island for the foreseeable while our Water Treatment Works return to normal operation.”
Scottish Water urges their customers to protect their pipes from the cold weather and report any signs of water risings to their Customer Engagement Centre on 0800-0778-778.

Protect your pipes
With the colder weather appearing, property owners are being advised that preparing could prevent problems such as burst pipes and flooding – and all the inconvenience and expense they can cause – and help reduce the amount of water lost through leakage.
Scottish Water is asking for residents to use water wisely and ensure all pipes are protected as much as possible.
Scottish Water has also launched its new free text alert initiative to encourage customers to be aware of any potential disruption to service in their area and how to prepare for every eventuality and is encouraging customers to sign up online. In recent winters, Scotland has experienced several very cold weeks, with pipes freezing followed by quick thawing and this has sometimes caused a surge in the number of bursts across the country.
