A large banner showing support for the people of Palestine is being sewn by peace groups throughout Scotland. Orkney peace campaigners are taking part in this extraordinary project by embroidering sections.

The Stitch Solidarity Project is an initiative originally started by Aberdeen Health Care Workers for Peace. This is one part of what will eventually become a huge banner of solidarity. Several more sections are being worked on in other parts of Scotland.

Orkney took delivery of its sections from Shetland where sewers had been working on it in the months before Christmas.

The stitch solidarity patchwork is comprised of images, messages, symbols of hope, colours associated with Palestine, peace etc all stitched onto hospital scrubs.

If you would like more information or to take part you can message the Orkney organiser Sheena at lottyotter@outlook.com or come a long to the Picky this Saturday, 25 January, at 11am the room next to the café.

There are squares of scrubs, embroidery threads and needles available if you do not have any. It doesn’t matter if you have no or few sewing skills as help will be provided. If you do have threads and other materials , including embroidery hoops, please bring those along.
