Thistle Wind Partners (TWP), developing the Ayre floating wind farm, to the east of Orkney and north-east of Caithness has announced a series of consultation events in August.

TWP will be submitting marine licence applications to construct the offshore windfarm and associated transmission infrastructure with the main construction activities starting in about 2030.

There will be three in-person events :

  • Wednesday 27th August 2025 Deerness 10:00am – 1:00pm, Deerness Community Centre
  • Wednesday 27th August 2025 Kirkwall 3:00pm – 7:00pm, St Magnus Centre
  • Thursday 28th August 2025 Kirkwall 9:30am – 12:30pm, St Magnus Centre.

TWP say that the proposed windfarm will have the potential to generate
around 1GW of renewable energy and is located 22km off the east coast of Orkney.

The licensable activity consists of:

  • Up to 67 wind turbines (floating or fixed foundations)
  • Up to two offshore substations, connected to the turbines via inter-array cables
  • Up to three Interconnector cables
  • Up to 20 Subsea collectors. Up to four export cables to the landfall location of Sinclair’s Bay in Caithness.
