Elections to the Scottish Parliament took place on Thursday 7 May, with the counting of votes on Friday 8 May. Voters were electing 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs).

All those registered to vote had 2 votes: 1 vote (First Past the Post system) for a Constituency MSP, and 1 vote (proportionally allocated through a distribution of votes) for Regional MSPs. There were a record number of people in Scotland registered to vote, however, only 53.2% chose to exercise that right.

The Scotland Vote,

Registered voters 4,320,981 (4,280,785 in 2021). This is a record number of registered voters for a Scottish Parliament election.

In Scotland the overall turnout was 53.2% (down from 63.5 % in 2021) Total number of votes cast : 3,847,511.

The Scottish Parliament is now made up of:

  • Scottish National Party 58 (down 6)
  • Labour 17 (down 4)
  • Reform UK 17 (up 17)
  • Scottish Green 15 (up 6)
  • Conservative 12 (down 19)
  • Liberal Democrat 10 ( up 6)

  1. I don’t understand why people are voting reform their policies are terrible and it’s just conservatives in disguise.

    Indeed, and I also don’t understand why have people in Wales and Scotland voted for Reform, when Reform have stated that their plan is to significantly reduce the powers that these nations have under devolution.
